As promised, I took some photos of my newly dyed ombre shorts! I dyed three pairs, but the last pair is shy and doesn't like photographs so you can't notice any difference so I didn't add them.
First pair I dyed with bleach |
How to bleach ombre your shorts:
what you will need:
* 2 Buckets
* Bleach
*Gloves
*Clips
*Rubber Bands
*water source
*pair of shorts (you can notice more if they are darker)
*Soap (I used Dawn)
* 6 pack of your favorite beer
1. Take the bucket and add about a 50/50 water to bleach solution. Make it high enough to dunk your shorts easily into
2. Tie your shorts up with some rubber bands. I put three or four rubber bands on the bottom of the shorts where the leg holes are, and then folded the shorts in half and put three rubber bands going up the shorts(I really used the rubber bands as guides to how long I should leave them in the bleach solution)
3. Get the shorts wet with normal water
4. Place the shorts into the water/bleach solution up to the point you want the bleach to dye the shorts. I didn't put the top of the shorts in the bleach at all because I wanted them to stay a dark color (leave in for 10 minutes)
5. Move the shorts up a little bit to the next rubber band (leave 10 minutes) This is when I started using clips to hold the shorts up. You can really use anything that will hold your shorts out of the water
6. Move the shorts up to the next level (leave in for 10 minutes)
7. I went back and did all of the levels for 10 more minutes because I wanted it lighter ( you can decide if you want them lighter)
8. I left the bottom of the shorts in the bucket for longer because I wanted this to be the lightest area of the shorts (20 more minutes)
9.Put the shorts into a bucket of water and Dawn soap to stop the bleach from lighting the shorts anymore
10. Wash and dry the shorts and they were good to wear :)
Make sure you are not wearing anything nice because you most likely will ruin it.

Green and white ombre shorts dyed with teal Rit dye |
How to ombre your shorts with Rit dye:
What you will need:
* 2 Buckets
* Teal Rit dye ($2 you can buy at Michael's, Walmart, they sell it about everywhere)
*Salt
*Gloves
*Clips
*Rubber Bands
*water source
*pair of shorts (I used a white pair I bought thrifting)
*Soap (I used Dawn)*6 pack of your favorite beer
1. Boil water on the stove
2. Put the hot water into the bucket, add whole packet of Rit dye, and add salt (I just put in about 5 tablespoons of it I don't really think there is a correct amount)
3. Mix the solution
4. Tie your shorts up with some rubber bands. I put three or four rubber bands on the bottom of the shorts where the leg holes are, and then folded the shorts in half and put three rubber bands going up the shorts. (I really used the rubber bands as guides to how long I should leave them in the Rit dye)
5. Dip the whole pair of shorts in the water (I literally dipped the shorts and pulled them out. I just wanted the top to be a really lite green color)
6. Move the shorts up to the next rubber band (10 minutes)
7. Move up to the next rubber band (10 minutes)
8. Move up to the next rubber band (10 minutes)
9. When I got to the bottom of the shorts I wanted the color to be darker so I left it in the dye for 20 minutes
10. Put shorts in a bucket of water and Dawn soap
12. Wash the shorts and dry them again (I did just to make sure the dye was all out)
13. Run around like a cool kat will ombre/tie-dye/sweet shorts (This is a must)

Here is a great YouTube video that I watched that help me learn how to be cool.
Wow, love it! I've been thinking about trying out the colour ombre thing but I've been told that most dyes don't work with synthetic materials.
ReplyDeleteMy dad said he tried bleaching his jeans once but he left them in undiluted bleach, so when he fished them out, ten minutes later or so, they just disintegrated then and there!
